Easy Rider memorabilia up for auction
Heritage Auction Galleries will offer Peter Fonda's personal memorabilia from Easy Rider in their upcoming Music and Entertainment Signature auction on October 6 & 7, 2007, at their headquarters in Dallas, Texas.
Among the items put up for auction are the American flag that Peter Fonda wore on the back of his motorcycle jacket in the movie, the D.O.D. badge and prototype gold Rolex watch he wore. "The watch was not a prop, it actually belonged to Fonda, who had purchased it as a reward to himself for finishing the screenplay for Easy Rider. In the movie, when you see Fonda toss the watch away, he's actually throwing a replica, not wanting to damage the original, which he wore throughout the rest of the movie and which can be seen briefly in the opening, pre-credit sequence", said Doug Norwine, director of Music & Entertainment Auctions for Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries
One of the things that set Easy Rider apart from virtually all other movies of its time was its soundtrack," Norwine said. "Featuring contemporary hits from the likes of Steppenwolf, the Byrds, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Roger McQuinn, the album was a phenomenal success and redefined the way popular music was used in motion pictures. Fonda received a Gold Record Award from the RIAA, commemorating 500,000 copies sold, an award we're proud to offer to the collecting public for the very first time."
Not all the items in the auction are from Easy Rider, there are also items from other movies starring Peter Fonda like his Martin D-45 guitar from the movie Outlaw Blues.
